It is a joy to be hidden, and a disaster to not be found

About me
Offering a safe and guided space for self-reflection, internal confrontation and insight orientated play.
A clinical psychologist working predominately from a psychodynamics/psychoanalytic framework. I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples both in psychotherapies as well as with assessments.
I have had the privilege to work in various sectors. I have operated in state hospital settings and spent many years managing the psychology team in a ward specifically catering to inpatient adolescents. My role at the hospital required clinical work, teaching and supervisory duties as well as ward management and program development. I have worked in academic settings in a teaching, supervising and examining role. I have also been fortunate to present workshops in various settings that have included educational talks as well as more therapeutic workshops.
Since qualifying I have worked in a private practice catering to longer-term psychodynamic therapy as well as supervision with colleagues. In recent years I have been consulting with a private inpatient day program working with patients in a case management role from a dialectical behavioural therapy stance. In this setting I also conduct Rorschach assessments which includes administering of the assessment, compiling feedback and writing reports on patients admitted.
My personal theoretical journey has found me drawn to contemporary psychoanalytic thinking that falls under the bracket of intersubjective or relational psychoanalytic framing. This framework puts value both on our internal drives as well as relational dynamics that shape us throughout our lives, bringing about unconscious patterns and dynamics.
My research interests include masculinity, couple dynamics, sexuality and alternative forms of configuring one’s relationships. I have a passion for couples therapy, individual therapy and career assessment.
I was trained as a Clinical Psychologist at Wits. My undergraduate and first two post graduated qualifications (psychology and education) were done between Nelson Mandela University and Rhodes.
My Services
Individual Therapy
Known as the talking cure, psychotherapy treats psychological issues through verbal exploration. It is a scientific method in which trained therapists use research-based techniques to support patients’ mental health needs.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is the modality practiced in my office. The focus of this modality is to build insight into oneself, build understanding of patterns as well as work toward making more sense of how one’s history has shaped or impacted their development.
Couple’s Therapy
Using a psychodynamic approach puts the couple front and centre of the work. Each party brings to the relationship histories, patterns and anxieties that dance together in forming the couple’s relationship. The focus in couple’s therapy is to tackle relational gridlocks, discover hidden patterns and develop more capacity to turn toward each other as a resource.
My practice invites relationships of all configurations; dyadic couples and polycules to work on co-created dynamics and build insight. Couple’s work is not always focussed on making something ‘better ‘but also involves engaging what feels intolerable and building a capacity to engage actualities about one’s relational dynamics.
Supervision
A fundamental tenant of working as a psychologist is on-going supervision. Supervision serves to provide a secondary container where psychologists can safely review and explore their own clinical work with a colleague in the field. Working as a psychologist is evocative; one can be pulled into dynamics, encounter blind-spots and need containment in their work. Supervision is set up to help contain and continue to develop insight into one’s clinical work by examining both patient and therapist dynamics together.
Career Assessment
Using a tailor-made assessment battery, I seek to assist those who request guidance in better understanding their own capacities and more clarity in their wishes for career development and study progression. Using both assessment tools as well as clinical judgment a career assessment works to understand both potentials and obstacles in developing in ones’ professional self.
I offer two potential assessment batteries. Please do contact me with your individual need to discuss which battery will be most suitable for you or your family member.
Workshops
I offer workshops in corporate wellness, parental developmental and specialised psychotherapeutic, clinicals and educational talks. Please do contact me to discuss potential workshops or talks that I may be able to assist with.
